Running on the High Places

February 27, 2024 Devotional by Rose-Marie Slosek

The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk to walk upon mine high places. (Habakkuk 3:19a KJV)

There will be times when we must experience the end of our natural strength to go any further or climb any higher. When this happens, it is startling because we may think that we are failing at something we should be succeeding at. Our human strength will fall short. It is a lesson that we must learn over and over. The Scriptures always say that God is our strength, and that our help comes from Him and not ourselves.

Perhaps the prophet saw the hinds (female deer) scampering sure-footedly in places he could not get to so easily. God has designed the hind to travel safely over difficult ground. A hind can place her back feet in the same spot that her front feet were just in and thus can scale treacherous territory and get to high ground to escape predators and pursuers.

God will cause us to take high ground but not in our own strength. It is He that makes us surefooted because we learn to listen to Him and to go only in the path that He leads us. He enables us to outrun and even outwit those pursuing us with evil intent because He supernaturally enables us.

The Lord causes His people to take higher ground in their lives. He wants us to ascend to places we could not have gotten to in our own strength. He wants us to take back high ground—ground we may have surrendered. In order to do so, we will need to be surefooted and supernaturally empowered to escape the snares the enemy of our souls puts down to entrap us. We will then run on the high hills and experience true freedom and delight in our Maker. We will be victorious over that which tried to conquer us. Think of how delightful it would be to run without fear of tripping or falling. Allow God to give you “hinds’ feet” so that you might run well and climb high.

Maranatha.
